Agriculture of Kane County Utah

Kane county's most important natural resource is coal in the Kaiparowitz plateau and altonfields.
Mining will soon make a great big new economic future for Kane.

The creation of Lake Powell brought new service Industries connected with boating and fishing especially the Bullfrog Basin Marine in the northeast corner of Kane.

Kane County History

Kane County was named after Brigadier General Thomas L. Kane. The first inhabitants of Kane County were the Anasazi - also called Moqui (Mo-kee) Indians. Jacob Hamblin built Fort Kanab in 1869. Kanab elected the first all woman town council in 1912.

The waters of man-made Lake Powell on the Colorado River form the county's eastern border, and most of the streams in Kane are part of the Colorado River system.
